Choose one letter from the alphabet.
Create it in your own unique style — flourish it, decorate it, experiment with colours, tools, or textures.
Post your creation on Instagram, tagging @thelifeofletterspodcast and using #OneLetterChallenge and #WorldCalligraphyDay so we can all see your beautiful work.
No full alphabet. No pressure. Just one letter — and all the creative freedom in the world.
A Global Celebration of Letters
The Life of Letters podcast, now gearing up for its third series, has quickly become a firm favourite in the calligraphy community. Since launching in March 2025, it’s been listened to over 4,500 times in 26+ countries, and our Instagram page has become a hub for like-minded lettering enthusiasts to gather and share.
For this year’s World Calligraphy Day, we’re thrilled to have Manuscript Co., Karin Markers, Speedball Arts, Stationery Matters, Kaweco, Studio Pens and Pentel on board, along with past podcast guests from Series 1, 2, and 3 already “signed up” to take part. Now we’d love you to join them.
Whether you’re into handwriting, brush lettering, traditional calligraphy, or experimental typography, the challenge is for all ages and all levels. It’s even a perfect summer holiday activity to do with kids. Our aim? To flood Instagram with creativity, inspire more people to explore the beauty of letters, and connect with the global lettering community.
The Story Behind World Calligraphy Day set up by Manuscript Co.
When the managing director of Manuscript Co. discovered there was no dedicated day to celebrating the art and historical craft and skill of calligraphy, he set one up! And so, World Calligraphy Day was born.
Recently, the date has been fixed so that every year, World Calligraphy Day will be held on 16th August. Find out more about their story and annual activities here.
